Whats up everybody. I think i'm going to probably shelve this site. For the next few months anyhow, i'll leave it up here just in case it has become useful. Find most recent updates regarding the show HERE

Hopefully your still checking in for the new episodes from time to time..there are THOUSANDS if not millions of podcasts out there so it is much appreciated, to those that listen and follow..

Using blogger feels dated and the link for this site is rather difficult to share. I also do not see the need for uploading a playlist each week any longer, but if you would still like one, shoot me an e-mail including the date of the show you wish to recieve a playlist for, and I will send it to ya....

So, bear with as i try and simplify things a bit.. Use the new link above for updates and to follow, "Ethereal Material" is also found on Twitter now
( though I know very little about it and am not the one behind it), it IS specifically for the show and I am aware that it also recieves updates regarding the show several times a week, so check that out as well, if it is something you use.

Again, I will leave this site up for a bit, but overall it seems to have become obsolete. In the meantime, the shows keep bangin! Peace Tim

Fund drive for 'Ethereal Material' (2011)

Hopefully you had a chance to catch last weeks show, soon I am working on putting together a yearly fund drive in order to keep this show alive each week on the net.

Don't worry, not about to charge listeners to access the shows anytime soon, but keeping it on the "air" does require a monthly fee which I have been paying for up until now, but as of now am no longer able to keep this thing going and before it gets to that point where the plug would have to be pulled, I will, during the coming months, be working on getting a few artists to come through for a special "fundraising" edition of the show.

In addition to supporting a great show, and the artists showcased each week, those who donate (even a minimum of 0.25) receive premiums for your donation such as, posters, key chains and best of all, exclusive new music and/or a hard copy of the shows compilation which came out in Sept. last year featuring a whole cast of emcees and songs that reflect the music often heard on the show....it is still available as a free download (for now) at the link provided above.

This show is ENTIRELY listener sponsored and I will pull the plug on it before deciding to run ads or commercials, let's keep this thing alive and moving by simply donating even a small quarter or fifty cents since literally, pennies are all I will be asking for during this time, especially since these are challenging economic times for many, even the smallest donations count.

ALL proceeds go directly to the expenses below:

One of Hip Hop's most iconic voices Nate Dogg passed away last night at the age of 41.

Hip Hop suffered another loss late last night, as Long Beach, California news site PressTelegram.com reports that Nathaniel "Nate Dogg" Hale has died at the age of 41.
Although no official cause of death has been announced, the former Death Row alum suffered from two strokes, his most recent one in September 2008.
A number of artists have confirmed Nate's passing via Twitter, including long-time friend and frequent collaborator Snoop Dogg.

What's up everybody, hope you are continuing to enjoy each weeks set.

The shows continue to be available every Sunday, tho this site has been updated far less these days,, may need to do something special for next weeks show in light of the situation in Japan and how that affects the rest of the world. At times it seems hip hop is relatively unimportant right now, however, even during the toughest times we need entertainment in order to escape from time to time. I guess that's where this show comes in,, free entertainment in a format which allows you to escape for a few hours. For as long as the music remains, fresh, interesting and consistent, I figure it's till worth it to keep going, for now.

So, now a bit behind on a couple weeks of playlists, but the how continues to prevail, get it each Sunday in in iTunes using the subscribtion link.

Hope to have both stream and playlists up for the past couple of shows soon enough, for now I got another three hour set coming up which will be available tomorrow afternoon.

Don't sleep! Bunch of dope new joints to play and also playing catch up on some things from earlier this month which may not have received enough attention. Oh, did anybody make it out to either the Rhetmattic/ Buff1 show in Pasadena last night or Dj Premier at the El Rey? Also, the LMNO show at the beat battle at The Terrace was hot. Since finding many of the records from these artists is becoming a challenge here in Los Angeles with the closing of various record spots and performance venues, all that is left to help keep this music alive is the shows, cannot stress enough how important it is to make it out to a few of them when you can, the artists need your support now more than ever!

Also, don't forget Project Blowed goes down every single Thursday where you also have an opportunity to check out some live music, not to mention it is held at a historical venue so the ambiance is included, door cover is generally only $5 which is helpful to most of us at this time. Just a few suggestions if looking for anything to do throught the week...

BIG up to A.F.S., Percee P & Dj Ray Swift for making the first show of the year a straight up classic!!

If you do not know who any of those dudes are...then i suggest you go back and do some research. Percee got records out since the 80's, not to mention a large discog with Stones Throw.

A.F.S. brand new album is hittin' on every track, both production and rhymes.

Dj Ray Swift has got 12's out there feat. Edo G., Diamond D, Dj Romes, Prince Po & others.. not to mention one of L.A.'s most solid underground/ old school hip hop dj's. Dope.

The Project Blowed Crew has also birthed most of the premiere Battle MC’s & Beat Makers over the last 10 years. The Blowed is Classic L.A. Ahhhh,,,so now that we have put 2010 to a close, it's time to kick things off in 2011 in a major way!

Next weeks show (Jan 2nd) I got guests. Dj Ray Swift (Submission Impossible, Diamond D, Percee P among others) will be guest deejaying on the one's and two's, during the first half, spinning nothing but CLASSIC hip hop, in the mix.
He also got a new record out there feat. Diamon D, Percee P and others which we will play some cuts off of...

Also, got Percee P, AFX, PLUS surprise guests lined up!!
Then, (as if not enough?) I plan to rock the final hour, uninterrupted with even more music..

Chance of a last minute guest arrival at some point during but likely keep it simple and really focus mainly on hittin' you with all those tracks and hit ya with as much music as can be squeezed into 180 min..sounds like a lot, right?

Nah be over before ya know it,, if you been listening for a while now, you already know, if not then PLEASE, click play on the SoundCloud to listen to last weeks show, even for just a few min in order to boost my "listens" on there would be appreciated or if your diggin' it and wish to make more noise..please head on over to the archives section and grab one of those older shows.

Think you'll be mighty impressed and oh, it will also help to keep those alive much longer, even just download 'em then trash 'em next day if you want,, then come back for another,, and another..

Never sure just how long this thing is gonna last but so far, have been putting together these WEEKLY hip hop shows and mixes for now over 10 years this December..

Just wanna be able to walk away feeling like something was accomplished and that I shared a lot of greast tracks that would have otherwise fallen on deaf ears.

This hip hop show concept since it began has been tried on just about every day of the week and although tried to keep it consistent, with the intent of over time devolping a loooong list of archved hip hop,,, the shows have had many different time slots, from 2-6 a.m. I remember 6-10 a.m. was even tried, Friday nights for the longest 10p 'till 1 was doin' t. Then Tuesday afternoon/eve somehow came about and most recently, the decision seems to have finally settled on Sunday eve and is working.

You can ALWAYS look forward to hearing a new, 3 hour set on this page each week.

Sometime during December I will do something special..once again, for "Ethereal Material" and for doing a weekly hip hop show for this damn long already..here's to ten more. Peace. TIM

Hey so, with more and more of my favorite music sites being shut down thanks to the new COICA laws which have been in place both in China and Iraq, now the U.S. is beginning to remove sites which allow sharing of various media streams....

It isn't a matter of "if" this site will be removed.,but a matter of "when" unfortuantely :(

So I was taking a stroll through the archives today and found some links to older shows which are no longer working, soon as there soptted, they're removed from the list.. far most have been uploaded from actual cd copys so they are safe and I hope to eventually re-up a most at some point..

Rapper Eyedea Passes Away At 28

St. Paul native Micheal Larsen, better known by his MC name, Eyedea, passed away this weekend at age 28. Larsen was a celebrated local hip-hop artist and served as half of Eyedea and Abilities, a hallmark act on the roster of the Minneapolis-based Rhymesayers label.

Larsen's mother, Kathy Averill, shared the news of her son's death via Facebook on Sunday, simply writing, "It is with great pain and sadness that I tell you my son Mikey (Eyedea) has passed away." She also asked that friends and fans respect the family's privacy and mentioned that a PayPal account has been set up to assist with the cost of Larsen's funeral services (donations can be sent here).

Larsen and his bandmate, Gregory "Max" Keltgen (DJ Abilities), released By the Throat in July 2009. Marked by the addition of Larsen's singing, the album was a perfect example of the duo's frantic, noir take on hip hop. Keltgen's intense beats and signature scratching complemented Larsen’s paroxysmal vocals, creating something completely unique: a rock-rap hybrid that not only worked, but seemed effortless.

Larsen had also collaborated with Carbon Carousel, Atmosphere, Sage Francis and Aesop Rock, and released solo work under the name Oliver Hart. This prolific artist will definitely be missed--musically and otherwise.

So..now what?

What's up everybody..

So yea, its been an eventful week in hip hop so far. In just the past seven days we watched FatBeats close their doors, leaving many hip hop heads saddened, some even feel slightly guilty for not supporting as much during their final days, myself included at times.
However it isn't all bad. We, as a group saw this coming and many of us are not ony sad by the changes but skeptical as far as how much longer this sound will continue to survive, especially with such little support.

Personally, I beleive it will not only prevail but eventually come back around in the way groups like Atmosphere and Jurrasic 5 and Dilated quickly became noticed..the same will likely happen thanks to the same "evil" that crushed the record stores (the Internet, combined with the forces of major pop labels, which have great interest in keeping this genre submerged..for a number of reasons(some you would not even believe!). Even though the profit margin on getting CDs and Vinyl pressed seems to still be "on hold" so to speak..the Internet will actually assist in keeping people who may enjoy this music interested but will also assist in exposing individuals to this sound. At least..it better! ..Now that the record stores are gone and there will no longer be any in-stores or hardly new vinyl releases, it simply HAS to work itself out, right? It can't just die like that!

Now the heads that WERE checkin for real artists will turn to sites such as this one to get what they need, right?

This is all speculation and wishful thinking..still, I remain hopeful through the end of this year, after "Ether Mat"vol. 1 compilation gets up on here, and the year has run it's course.. only then will I make a decision on where to take this project next..or if it should even continue at all :-/

Oh, so yea..i've known about this for a couple days now..

I got a dope hip hop compilation of exclusive, dope ass, brand new music around the corner..

NOT talking about the weekly, Sunday eve. set but a separate, FULL LENGTH release!

ETHEREAL MATERIAL vol. 1 (2010) - Coming VERY soon!!!

It will basically be a soundtrack tailored specifically for the hip hop show and even the artwork is gonna kick butt!!

A quick update for ya and in case you wonderin' what this site is all about..

Basically every Sunday evening i upload a brand new, three hour hip hop mix which you can stream for the week on the right side of the page using the SoundCloud feature.

This set is called "Ethereal Material" and it is written along with the date of each episode or podcast.

It may not be the most efficient way as far as time is concerned..but it works for now and if anybody has any suggestions regarding a better site to use instead, i'm open to ideas.

Anyhow, this weekly hip hop show has been running for years now and you can find archives to each week from thought many months under the "archives" tab to your right. Download them straight to your mp3 pplayer or computer if you wish.

Let me know if you come across any dead links in the comments section or e-mail and I will re-up the show that you need. If you want to request a specific week or show that isn't listed, than feel free to specify one and it can be dug up in vault somewhere, i'm sure.

Will begin the process of adding old shows to that list, both to keep things interesting and to eventually achieve this ridiculiously looong list of quality, commercial free hip hop shows to choose from at any given time yet...whatever it takes to keep ya interested!

Whats up everybody..

Another 3 hour hip hop show will up here later today. For those that missed it Dr. Oop killed it last night at FatBeats! He and Nucleus did some tracks off of his new Grateful Dread album, along with a couple of classic joints. Dr. Oop brought real hip hop spirit to the place once again.

If you can, be sure to visit them on melrose in Hollywood before they close their doors later next week. They will have discounted merchandise along with an onslaught of big names stopping by to visit and say goodbye randomly thorught the week.

It is a sad sign of the times to have the Mecca of underground hip hop in L.A. actually close it's doors, but until further notice..this show will continue to try its best to keep you excited about real hip hop music.

Makes me very sad to post this...

After 16 years, Fat Beats has announced the closing of the legendary label's two remaining retail locations in New York and Los Angeles. Fat Beats will celebrate the legacies of the stores, which are scheduled to close in early September (New York: September 4th, Los Angeles: September 18th) by throwing a series of blow-out sales and tribute parties open to the public during their last weeks. Fat Beats' longest running and most famed location is at 406 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan. Since the 1994 opening of Fat Beats' flagship retail location, hip-hop fans have traveled far and wide to visit the iconic store. With locations soon following in Los Angeles (7600 Melrose Ave.), Atlanta, Amsterdam, and Tokyo, the record stores were a place to experience hip-hop culture and its legacy, which became a global phenomenon. "The closing of Fat Beats is just like one of my friends passing away. This week I'll have the hip hop show up a little bit late.. Been away from town all this week and won't be returning back to Los Angeles for still another few days.

However, the show must go on and will this Sunday as usual, only it will take place in a different location since I am away..typing out tracklist and all that stuff will be put on hold until I return later on this week. So, i now have the show from Sunday evening up for download, feel free throw it on ya pod and listen while you drive or..direct stream to your right.

Occasionally the SoundCloud site is down however, you can often get it anyway by simply refreshing the page after a few moments. If you are still having trouble, there is a direct download option, one way or another..you'll be able to listen ;)

Added few more old shows to the archives, including a few "backup" links in case the one that interests you is down..

Only Monday as of writing this and can tell you next week we are doing it again, keep checkin' back for more and give this weeks episode a listen!! Your ears will thank you, and so do I.

The Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles (KCCLA) are hosting a B-boy Workshop with Last For One , internationally renowned and award winning Korean hip-hop dance troup.

The workshop will be an opportunity for those interested in learning the art of B-boy dancing from basic technique to more advanced moves on August 18, 2010, 7:30 p.m., at the Korean Cultural Center of Los Angeles (5505 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036). $5 workshop fee.
